When it comes to your kitchen, you need something at your windows and doors that looks great and are practical too. Kitchens are typically high traffic areas where shades can get dirtier than any other room. You probably also have taps in the way, worktops to lean over, tiling or splashbacks to consider, and use the windowsill for storage space.
As an independent installer of all types of blinds, shutters and curtains we can advise on the best solution – for all budgets. These can include:
Roller blinds in the kitchen can make a statement if you have a very monochrome kitchen, or they can be complimentary in colour. The fabrics vary from PVC which is brilliant for wiping down, screen fabric which is a high performance and robust material which you can use cleaning products on and allows you visibility through, to standard laminated light filtering which you can wipe down.
Roller blinds are usually operated by a chain, but if you are leaning over a worktop or have multiple windows, this can be inconvenient. Child safety regulations require either tensioning devices fixed to the wall or breakers. The easiest operation for longevity is to motorise the blind. Integral battery powered motors which only need recharging every 9-12 months are a simple and reasonably low-cost solution. We love working with Kitchen Eleven in Kingston, Surrey on their projects as the results are always stunning.
For a good value and effective blind in the kitchen, Venetian Blinds are perfect. One easy tug on the cord and the louvres will tilt to control light and privacy. Available in wood or metal, you will find the right colour to match any kitchen. Louvre sizes 25mm, 35mm, 50mm and 63mm (colour and material dependent). You can even motorise the tilt mechanism without breaking the bank, which when combined with a WiSER hub can be scheduled to open and close at set times of the day.
Ever popular for contemporary privacy and light control, plantation shutters look great in kitchens with their clean lines and practical structure. Tiles, splashbacks and taps need to be considered for when installing – experienced and trained professionals make all the difference here.
